INNOVATIVE GARDEN TOOLS WIN DESIGN AWARD

A beautifully-designed range of garden pruners that do away with the visible rust-prone spring fxound in conventional pruners has won a prestigious Australian International Design Award.

Presented by Standards Australia, the 2008 Australian International Design Awards were announced at a gala dinner event at the Australian Technology Park in Sydney.

Designed by Cyclone Industries, the Garden Pruner Range (also known as Pivot Spring Pruners) is a set of five high-quality pruners for professional gardeners or home enthusiasts with a unique pivot system developed to eliminate the visible rust-prone spring.

Unlike other pruners, the spring is fully enclosed and will not rust, get lost or pinch hands. There is no need to purchase replacement parts and the pivot mechanism incorporates a self-lubricated internal bush that reduces friction and provides a smooth action for repeated operation.

The pruners also feature a striking visual style, ergonomic shape, and re-usable clam-shell style package. They have been carefully balanced to ensure they are comfortable to use for long periods by all gardeners, in particular women and the elderly who make up the majority of users.

Judges were impressed with the overall quality and style of design.
“Sensational design that exudes quality, elegance, and an iconic, signature style”.

The Garden Pruner Range was one of five nominees in the running for the top award – Australian International Design Award of the Year which went to Flaik, a snowsports performance tracking device.

The Australian International Design Awards, a division of Standards Australia, is Australia’s longest standing national product design awards program, recognising design excellence and innovation in Australia.

“Recipients of an Australian International Design Award have, in the opinion of our international judging panel, met and exceeded all judging criteria including innovation, functionality, appeal, originality, quality, ergonomics, safety, value and eco-design,” said Ms Stephanie Watson, Manager of the Australian International Design Awards.

Ms Watson said an Australian International Design Award is an indicator of superior design and innovation which helps consumers identify quality products in the marketplace.

The 2008 Australian International Design Awards received 159 local and international entrants across 11 industry categories, including consumer, business & technology, sport & leisure, house & building, automotive and medical & scientific.

2008 was the first year internationally-designed products available on the Australian marketplace were eligible to enter.

The complete range of Cyclone award winning Pivot Spring Pruners are now available from all leading hardware stores from a recommended retail price of $39.99.
